Historicity of Adam & Eve

Our culture is so indoctrinated with the teachings on evolution, that modern day Christians find it very difficult to believe in the account of creation given by the Creator himself. It is either dismissed as a myth, or they try to fit the biblical account into the evolutionary framework. Below are some of the arguments used to reject the biblical account:

  • Adam and Eve were mythical because they are recorded only in the Bible.
  • The biblical account of Adam and Eve was a folklore (myth) to explain the origin of the human race to simple people, who in ancient times, did not have the science, knowledge or technology to refute this myth.
  • A day could mean a thousand or a million years because we were told that some guy called Darwin came up with the idea that everything must have evolved from a single cell over millions of years. Darwin was a naturalist but we’ll call him a scientist – so evolution must be true

There are many reasons why we can believe the Biblical account:

  1. It is God’s record and testimony. He was the only one present in the creation time, space and matter, and trustworthy in the information he gives us. He is the only one qualified to provide this information.
  2. If God can create a fully grown man and woman in one day, He can create a universe that seems to be millions of years in one day too. Don’t assume God’s power must fit within our finite brains and imaginations.
  3. There is overwhelming historical, geological and archeological evidence for the biblical account of creation. There is ZERO evidence for evolution.

Scriptural reasons for believing in Adam & Eve as very real persons who came into being at a specific period of time described in the Bible:

  • The prophets of the Old Testament described Adam as a very real person. The Genesis account of the nations are traced back to Adam.
  • The apostles in the New Testament referred to the first Adam as a very real person, and the very basis on which salvation is needed in the person of Jesus Christ.
  • Jesus referred to the creation of Adam and Eve, and the very first marriage between the two, as a very real event that occurred at the beginning of creation (Mark 10:6-9).

Mark 10:6 “But from the beginning of creation, God MADE THEM MALE AND FEMALE. 7 “FOR THIS REASON A MAN SHALL LEAVE HIS FATHER AND MOTHER, 8 AND THE TWO SHALL BECOME * ONE FLESH; so they are no longer two, but one flesh. 9 “What therefore God has joined together, let no man separate.”

  • One gospel writer traced Jesus’ ancestry back to Adam (Luke 3:23-38) and Matthew who traced Jesus’ ancestry back to Abraham. The Hebrew people (Jews) were very meticulous with their record keeping

If the prophets of the Old Testament, and the apostles of the New Testament, and the Lord Jesus Christ confirmed the reality and historicity of Adam, and Eve, and creation… then we must question the theories and conclusions of these modern Bible scholars.

It’s not surprising that we now see churches preaching a very weird and corrupt version of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. These teachers have accepted the lie that most of the Bible is mythical or allegorical. In a very strange way, they have returned to Garden of Eden and asked the same question that the serpent asked…

Genesis 3:1 … Did God really say…?

And they have concluded that God didn’t really mean anything by the Book of Genesis – that it was purely a story for the simple folk. Sadly it doesn’t end there… if God’s testimony isn’t true from the start… which other parts of the Bible isn’t true? Who decides? They have become little gods who now decide truth and falsehood in God’s Word. This was the precise reason sin, corruption and death entered into the world.
